New polling of a diverse group of voters reveals that a minority believe foreign farm workers are taking U.S. jobs, and broad majorities support Congressional action to establish a workable agricultural labor program. The polling, conducted by The Tarrance Group and sponsored by Western Growers, a produce industry trade group, found the following:
  • 70% of voters, when initially asked, would support a new agricultural worker program.
  • Just 27% of voters surveyed believe that immigrants doing farm work are taking jobs Americans would do.
  • 71% of Republican voters generally, 65% of conservative voters, 70% of Tea Party supporters, and 66% of weekly church-goers, would be more likely to support a Congressional candidate who favored creation of a workable agricultural worker program with reasonable regulatory safeguards.
