The Annual Meeting of the ANLA Senate will take place on Saturday, July 13, 2013, from 4:00-5:00 pm, just prior to the HRI reception, in Columbus, Ohio, in conjunction with the OFA Short Course. Any ANLA dues-paying member may attend the Senate meeting, as provided in the ANLA bylaws. Senators who are not able to attend should contact Warren Quinn, ANLA Corporate Secretary, immediately, at wquinn@anla.org.

ANLA is now accepting nomination for the 2013 Hall of Fame Award. The award is the highest recognition the horticultural industry can bestow on one of it's members. ANLA's Hall of Fame Award was created to recognize lifetime achievement in professional excellence and service to industry, family and community.

In late February, the volunteer leaders and several senior staff from ANLA and OFA met in Indianapolis, Indiana for our winter board of directors meetings and a joint planning event. As previously promoted, a new consolidated organization is scheduled to formally launch no earlier than 2014, pending member approval, which will be sought later this year. The meetings included discussions on strategic goals and refinement of the core mission for the new association.

On February 26, ANLA hosted an exclusive member webinar on Affordable Care Act (ACA) compliance. ANLA tax and horticultural law expert John Satagaj walked members through many details and considerations of the law for our industry, with which he has worked for 30 years. John is a highly respected business expert in his role as president and general counsel for the Small Business Legislative Council. Joining John in sharing knowledge and guidance were Lynn Jacquez and Chris Schulte of CJ-Lake, LLC, which is ANLA’s labor and immigration expert consultant.

ANLA members may register now to participate in a “Surviving Obamacare: Understanding the Affordable Care Act” webinar.  The webinar will be held Tuesday, February 26, from 11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Eastern time.  It will feature issue experts John Satagaj, who serves as president of the Small Business Legislative Council and legal consultant to ANLA; as well as Lynn Jacquez, with ANLA’s labor and immigration law counsel CJ-Lake, LLC.
