Those following the saga of the H-2B program already know that it’s the only safety net for sourcing legal temporary and seasonal workers for landscape and other non-agricultural work in the green industry. They know that few Americans seek seasonal manual labor jobs. And they know that the H-2B safety net is being shredded by hostile Labor Department regulations
Most eyes are on the courts, where a legal challenge against the Labor Department’s new rules is underway. Meanwhile, some in Congress are working to block the Labor Department as well. On Thursday, Sen. Richard Shelby (R-AL) intends to offer an amendment to the appropriations bill that funds the Department of Labor, which would block the bureaucrats from implementing layers of new H-2B program regulations. The American Nursery & Landscape Association is urging green industry firms who have a U.S. Senator on the Senate Appropriations Committee to call their Senator immediately and urge support for the Shelby amendment. Take action now
to sustain the H-2B program.
