Horticultural Research Institute Awards $282,500 in Research Grants & Scholarships

The Horticultural Research Institute (HRI) has awarded $282,500 to nine research projects and four student scholarships for 2012.

The principal investigator is listed for each project. Many projects are collaborations between multiple research institutions and researchers.

HRI is committed to support annual research efforts focused on the highest priority needs of the green industry. HRI strongly encourages collaborative research efforts and challenges scientists to focus research on attainable outcomes that show a return on investment for the green industry. Applications for FY2013 will be accepted beginning in February and are due no later than May 15, 2012.

Teresa Jodon
Teresa is the Executive Director of the Horticultural Research Institute and direct activities including research, fundraising, a competitive grants and scholarship program, and activities within the HRI membership, scientific and donor communities. She is the staff liaison for the HRI Executive Committee, Investment Committee and Board of Trustees. Teresa is the CEO of Green Industry Innovations (GII), LLC. A for-profit company established by HRI. GII was created to facilitate with the commercialization of keratin based resins, a product of HRI’s work in creating a biodegradable plant container from poultry feathers (keratin). Teresa received her Master of Science in Management with a specialization in Nonprofit and Association Management from the University of Maryland University College.
